Chair seat weaving, particularly chair caning, was developed in South East Asia, Portugal, France, and England in the mid-1600s, and it became quite popular and widely utilized during the 1700s-1800s and into the early 1900s.

Caning is a form of woodworking that involves cutting a channel into the side of a piece of lumber, then crossing the cut ends with the grain perpendicular to the ground, and finally rotating the piece 90 degrees so the cut ends are along the length of the board. This creates a wedge-shaped channel into which you can fit a mold release or lubricant for taking impressions from objects such as feet. Caning is also how they made old-fashioned shoe trees back in the day!

In modern furniture making, caning is used to create an elegant look for chairs, benches, and beds. It also gives your piece more depth and texture, especially when combined with other wood species or stained or painted dark colors.

Caning is made by taking a tree down when it is harvested, cutting it into thin strips with each layer being no thicker than 1/4 inch and usually less than 3/8 inch. The canes are then braided together with the fibers running vertically, except where they are crossed under tension from bending over a chair leg or arm.

The dance came to America where it appeared in many blackface minstrel shows between 1847 and 1890. After this initial use, it fell out of fashion until 1913 when it was revived by Les Syncopations who played cancan dances at New York's Café Society. This inspired several other groups in the United States to revive the dance again. The cancan finally achieved popularity in Europe during World War II when American soldiers brought the dance back with them from overseas.

Where does the word canasta come from?

Canasta is derived from the Spanish word for "basket," and most likely refers to the tray in the center of the table that holds unsettled cards and discards. Samba and Bolivia are two variations. Brazil's version is called pino, and it is similar to canasta.

Cards were originally painted bright colors; today they are usually black or white. Canasta cards range in price from $20 to $100; a set typically includes four copies of each card, with some sets having more or less than this number. A canasta dealer will often have several hundred dollars worth of cards on hand at any one time.

At the end of each round, players add up the values of their cards. If one player has a card higher than another, he or she gets to choose either to keep the card or throw it away. Discarded cards are replaced with new ones from the deck. The object is to be the first to reach ten points; if you do, then you win!

Canasta was popular in Cuba and Puerto Rico as well as in South America. In the United States, it began appearing in casinos around Las Vegas in the 1970s. It is now also played online.

Where did the origin of the cannoli come from?

Palermo is where the original cannoli began. At the time, Sicily was under Arab authority, therefore making traditional food stand out was crucial for the residents. The cannoli were produced especially for Carnivale. This celebratory season, which occurs just before Lent, features parades and masquerades comparable to Mardi Gras. People would go dressed up in extravagant costumes and party all night long.

This new type of cookie became popular with locals and tourists alike. Over time, it evolved into what we know today as the cannoli recipe used by most bakeries throughout Sicily.
